Causal fermion systems provide a general framework for the formulation of relativistic quantum theory. A particular feature is that space-time is a secondary object which emerges by minimizing an action for the so-called universal measure. After a brief introduction, we explain how quantum mechanics arises in this framework. Decoherence phenomena and the measurement problem are discussed. We propose a mechanism leading to the collapse of the wave function in the quantum mechanical measurement process.
